Released in 1999, Lego Star Wars Tie Fighter & Y-Wing #7150 holds a special place in Lego history as part of the very first wave of Lego Star Wars sets. This release marked the moment Lego and Star Wars officially came together, launching a theme that would go on to span decades.
The set includes two instantly recognisable starfighters from opposing sides of the Star Wars universe: the Imperial Tie Fighter and the Rebel Alliance Y-Wing. Built using late-1990s Lego design principles, the models reflect the simpler construction style of the era, relying on clean lines and basic building techniques rather than the specialised parts and complex builds seen in later years.
As an early release, #7150 predates many of the refinements that would later define the Lego Star Wars theme, including advanced minifigure detailing and highly intricate ship designs. Its importance lies not in scale or size, but in what it represents โ the starting point of Lego Star Wars as a global collecting phenomenon.
Today, this set is increasingly difficult to find in complete condition, particularly when it has been carefully assembled to confirm completeness and then stored. It remains a strong example of early Lego Star Wars history and a nostalgic reminder of the era when the galaxy first came to life in brick form.
